What it measures

  • Urine mercury concentration — The level of mercury in a urine sample, usually reported in micrograms per liter (µg/L).
  • 24-hour urine mercury — If collected over 24 hours, the total mercury excreted in a day, which may give a better picture of exposure.
  • Creatinine (sometimes) — A substance used to adjust mercury levels for urine concentration, helping account for how dilute the sample is.
