  • Lead — A metal that can affect the brain and nerves, often from old paint or plumbing.
  • Mercury — A metal found in some fish and industrial settings that can harm the nervous system.
  • Arsenic — A metal-like element that can cause stomach and skin problems with long-term exposure.
  • Cadmium — A metal linked to kidney and lung damage, often from smoking or certain workplaces.
  • Chromium — A metal that can cause skin and breathing issues in some industrial workers.

Who it is for

A doctor may order this test if you have symptoms like confusion, numbness, or stomach pain, or if you work with metals or have other exposure risks.

Preparation
