What it measures

  • Total IgE — Overall level of allergy-related antibodies in the blood.
  • Careless weed-specific IgE — Antibodies that target careless weed pollen specifically.
  • Other weed-specific IgE — Checks for reactions to similar weeds like ragweed or pigweed.
  • Other allergen-specific IgE — May include common pollens, dust mites, or molds to find all triggers.

Who it is for

A primary care clinician or allergist typically orders this test for people with persistent or seasonal allergy symptoms who want to identify or confirm a specific trigger.

Preparation

No fasting or special preparation is needed. The blood sample can be drawn at any time of day.

Results and what they mean

Results are reported as a number for each specific IgE, often with a reference range or class score. A clinician interprets these results alongside your symptoms and history; a positive test alone does not always mean you have an allergy. This is general information, not medical advice.
