The Willow Tree Allergy Test is a blood test that checks for allergic sensitization to proteins from willow tree pollen. It is ordered when a person has seasonal allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, or itchy eyes and a clinician wants to confirm whether willow pollen is a trigger.

What it measures

  • Willow pollen-specific IgE — Antibodies that suggest an allergic response to willow pollen.
  • Total IgE — A general measure of allergic tendency, not specific to willow.
  • Cross-reactive pollen markers — Proteins shared with other trees or grasses that may cause similar symptoms.

Who it is for

A primary care clinician or allergist typically orders this test for people with recurring seasonal symptoms that may be linked to tree pollen.

Preparation

No fasting or special preparation is required. Tell your clinician about any antihistamines or other medications you take, as some can affect allergy test results.

Results and what they mean

Results are reported as a level or class for each marker, often with a reference range. A clinician interprets these numbers alongside your symptoms and history; a positive result alone does not confirm an allergy. This is general information, not medical advice.

Requesting the Willow Tree Allergy Test in California

Order online, choose a certified collection site in California, and review results through a secure portal. No referral is required, and orders are processed confidentially. With coastal metros, inland towns, and rural counties with very different access to testing, it pays to schedule your collection in advance.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get results?

Typical turnaround is 1 to 3 business days after the blood draw.

Does a positive result mean I am allergic to willow trees?

Not necessarily. It shows sensitization, which may or may not cause symptoms. Your clinician will consider your history.

Can I take my allergy medication before the test?

Ask your clinician. Some antihistamines can interfere with allergy testing, so they may adjust your dose or timing.

Is this test painful?

It uses a standard blood draw from a vein, which feels like a brief pinch.
