The Turkey Allergy Test is a blood test that checks for an allergic response to turkey meat. It is ordered when someone has had symptoms like hives, swelling, or digestive upset after eating turkey, or when a doctor suspects a turkey allergy.

What it measures

  • Turkey-specific IgE — An antibody that, if present, suggests an allergy to turkey.
  • Total IgE — A general measure of allergic tendency, not specific to turkey.
  • Turkey albumin — A protein in turkey that can trigger reactions in some people.
  • Turkey globulin — Another turkey protein that may cause allergic symptoms.

Who it is for

This test is usually ordered by an allergist or primary care doctor for people who have had allergic symptoms after eating turkey or other poultry.

Preparation

No fasting or special preparation is needed. You can eat and drink normally before the test.

Results and what they mean

Results are reported as a number or class for each marker, showing whether turkey-specific IgE is present and how high it is. A clinician interprets these results along with your symptoms and history; a positive test alone does not always mean you have an allergy. This is general information, not medical advice.

Requesting the Turkey Allergy Test in California
