The Hackberry Tree Allergy Test is a blood test that looks for antibodies your immune system may make against hackberry tree pollen. It is usually ordered when someone has allergy symptoms that seem to happen during the tree's pollinating season, or when a clinician wants to confirm which pollen is causing symptoms.

What it measures

  • Hackberry pollen-specific IgE — The main marker; IgE is an immune protein linked to allergic reactions.
  • Total IgE — Sometimes measured to show the overall level of allergy-related antibody in the blood.
  • Other tree pollen IgEs — May be checked together to compare reactions to similar trees.
  • Cross-reactive pollen markers — Helps show whether symptoms may come from related pollens rather than hackberry alone.

Who it is for

A primary care clinician or an allergist typically orders this test. It is most often used for people with seasonal sneezing, itchy eyes, or nasal congestion.

Preparation

No fasting or special preparation is needed. Tell the clinician about any allergy medicines you take, since some can affect test results.

Results and what they mean

Results are reported as a level of hackberry-specific IgE, often with a reference range from the lab. A clinician interprets the number alongside your symptoms and history; a positive result alone does not confirm an allergy. This is general information, not medical advice.
